Size Guide

Last updated:

Three throw sizes, two fabrics. Most Snug Print designs come in 30 x 40 in (about 76 x 102 cm), 50 x 60 in (about 127 x 152 cm) and 60 x 80 in (about 152 x 203 cm), in fleece or sherpa. Sizes are approximate. Pick by where the blanket will live, how many photos the design holds and who it is for. If the size turns out wrong, you can return it within 60 days with a free return label. Choosing a blanket size is less about numbers and more about how the throw will be used. A blanket for a dog crate, a blanket for a grandmother’s armchair and a blanket for a king bed need different sizes, and a collage of twenty photos needs more space than a single portrait. This guide walks through each size, compares them side by side, and answers the questions we hear most often. The size names on this page are the same values you choose in the “Blanket Size” option on each product page.

All measurements are approximate. Printed fabric can vary slightly from the stated size, and a blanket can look a little smaller after washing and drying. If an exact measurement matters for a frame, a crate or a specific bed, email us before ordering and we will help you choose.

A closer look at each size

30 x 40 in: the small throw

This is the size to tuck into a bag. It covers the lap of one adult sitting in a chair, fits across a stroller or the back seat of a car, and suits most large dog crates and medium pet beds. It is also the size of our Mini Name Lovey Throw and the pet crate throws. Because the surface is smaller, simple designs work best: a single photo, a name, or a layout of four to nine pictures. A twelve-photo grid at this size makes each face quite small.

For babies: the 30 x 40 in throw is for supervised use, such as walks, car rides, play mats and cuddles. It is not meant to be used as loose bedding in a crib for a sleeping baby.

50 x 60 in: the sofa throw

This is the everyday size. It covers one adult on a sofa from shoulders to feet, drapes neatly over the back of an armchair, and folds into a tidy square on a shelf. It suits most gifts for parents, grandparents and partners, and it gives collages enough space for faces to stay clear from across a room. Designs such as the Family Tree Names Blanket and memorial portraits read comfortably at this size.

60 x 80 in: the bed throw

The largest size covers the top of a twin or full bed, lies across the foot of a queen or king bed, and is wide enough for two people sharing the sofa. Choose it for photo-heavy designs, for group photos where faces are small in the original picture, and for wedding photos you want printed as large as possible. It is also a good size for teenagers and for anyone who likes to wrap up completely.

Choosing by photo count

The more photos a design holds, the smaller each one is printed on a given blanket. Our rule of thumb is simple: if you need to look closely at a face on your phone to recognise someone, choose a bigger blanket for that layout.

  • One photo (portraits, pet faces, wedding photos): any size works. The larger the blanket, the more detail you need in the original photo, so for 60 x 80 in send the original file rather than a screenshot.
  • Two to nine photos (window panes, instant-photo scatter, generations): 30 x 40 in is fine; 50 x 60 in gives more breathing room.
  • Ten to twenty photos (classic grid, heart collage, film strips): 50 x 60 in or larger.
  • More than twenty photos, or a design with month labels (calendar, quilt-look memorial): 60 x 80 in for the clearest result. Some of these designs are only offered in the two larger sizes.
  • Names only (family name, paw-print patterns, starry names): any size; long lists of names, such as a family tree with more than sixteen names, read best at 50 x 60 in or larger.

Photos are printed as supplied, without retouching. Bright, sharp, well-lit photos stay clear at every size. Read our FAQs for more photo tips.

Fleece or sherpa: does fabric change the size?

No. The size option is the same for both fabrics, and the printed face looks the same on each. The difference is the back and the feel. Fleece is light and smooth on both sides, easy to fold small and quick to dry. Sherpa has a printed fleece face with a thick, fluffy sherpa back, which makes the blanket heavier, warmer and a little bulkier when folded. If you are choosing for a small space, such as a crate or a car, fleece takes up less room. If you are choosing for a cold room or a bed, sherpa adds warmth without needing a bigger size.

Some designs are offered in one fabric only, such as our quilt-look memorial blanket in sherpa, or in one fixed size, such as the reunion throw at 60 x 80 in. The product name and description always say so.

How to measure your space at home

  1. For a sofa: measure the seat width from arm to arm and the distance from the top of the back cushion to the floor. A 50 x 60 in throw drapes well over most two-seat and three-seat sofas.
  2. For a bed: measure the width of the mattress top. If the blanket is meant to lie across the foot of the bed, compare the mattress width with the 80 in side of the largest size.
  3. For a crate or pet bed: measure the inside floor of the crate. A 30 x 40 in throw can be folded in half to fit smaller crates.
  4. For a wall or a frame: measure the space you want to cover and leave a margin. Fabric hangs best with a little room around it.

Use a soft tape measure or a long ruler, and round to the nearest inch. If you prefer centimetres, the table above lists both.

Common size questions

I am between two sizes. Which should I pick?

When in doubt, size up for photo collages and for anyone who likes to wrap up completely, and size down for crates, cars, strollers and small armchairs. A throw that is slightly too big can be folded; a collage that is too small cannot make faces bigger.

Will a 60 x 80 in blanket cover a queen or king bed?

It works as a throw across the top or the foot of the bed, not as a full bedspread. On a twin or full mattress it covers more of the surface. If you want it to hang over the sides, measure your mattress first using the steps above.

Which size is right for a memorial blanket for a funeral or a service?

For a single portrait with a name, dates and a short verse, 50 x 60 in reads clearly and can be folded over a chair or displayed on a stand. If several family members each want one, you can order the same size for everyone so the blankets match, and list each household’s details clearly in the order notes so every blanket gets the right names and photo. Please allow 1-3 business days to prepare plus 7-14 business days in transit; we cannot promise a delivery date.

Is a bigger size better for an old or low-resolution photo?

No, the opposite. A small or blurry photo looks softer when it is printed large. If your only photo is an old print or a small file, a 30 x 40 in or 50 x 60 in blanket will usually look sharper than 60 x 80 in. We print photos as supplied, without retouching.

Do the colour options change the size?

No. Designs with a background colour choice, such as the starry name blanket or the family name blanket, use the same three sizes in every colour.

Can I order a size you do not list?

We only offer the sizes shown on each product page. If none of them fits your space, email us and we will tell you honestly which listed size comes closest.
